About Me

Michael Norris Devon Chiropractor

I have been in practise since 1995, when I graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic. In the late 1980’s I had a severe lifting injury while working in agriculture. The effectiveness of chiropractic treatment and the speed of my return to work were the catalyst to study chiropractic.

From 2000 to late 2006, I ran my own practice in Newark, recruiting chiropractors and other health professionals into a multi-disciplinary team. The practice had an NHS contract for the treatment of lower back injury, which proved to be highly successful. It is still one of my greatest regrets that there isn’t better NHS integration for chiropractic.

In 2006, I returned to the southwest for family reasons and began a long and productive collaboration with Richard Stenning in Axminster. When the opportunity arose to branch out on my own, I was extremely fortunate to meet Deborah Gildersleeves. Deborah, a psychotherapist, had recently opened Stillwaters Therapy Centre at The Elms. It gave us the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary setting again, something we have both very much enjoyed.

Louise White, a chiropractor from Musbury who treats both humans and animals, has recently built a purpose-built clinic at her home. After cooperating informally for a number of years, Louise and I have decided that it would be of benefit for patients to pool our experience and that I should begin to work from Musbury House Clinic from November 2019.

Many people see chiropractic as a source of short-term relief from pain, such as after a weekend of heavy gardening. However, there is a much more important and less-well understood role for chiropractic in the area of injury prevention for those people whose history or occupation mean they are likely to have recurrent problems. It is in this area that real, long term benefits can be realised and overall wellbeing improved. Most of us have long accepted the wisdom of regular dental check-ups but not enough of us realise our spinal health will benefit from similar attention.

I have been fortunate in the past to work with elite athletes, equestrians and dancers in the area of performance improvement. This work is fascinating because it delivers measurable change. While this may not have direct relevance for most of us, it helps change treatment for the things we all experience.
