Your First Visit

Before any treatment is recommended or offered, chiropractors want to have a very clear impression of your current health, the problem you have sought advice over and anything else that may be relevant. With this in mind, you should allow up to an hour for your first visit. This is not unusual, it just allows us to be as thorough and clear as we can at the outset.

Having taken a full clinical History, you will be examined using standard orthopaedic and neurological tests. Your comfort and dignity are of the utmost importance.  You will be asked to remove only the minimum of clothing required for an appropriate examination and treatment gowns are always provided.  All patients are most welcome to bring a friend or family member with them if they wish.

Your examination is tailored to your individual situation to ensure that all significant findings are considered. Should further investigations be indicated such as blood tests, scans or other imaging, this is usually done in conjunction with your GP.

After being examined, it will be possible to discuss the findings of the assessment, what the most appropriate type of treatment may be, how long it may take.  Also which self-help activities or home exercises may be the most useful. All of this discussion helps inform the patient so that before having treatment they are able, as far as possible to make an informed choice on the subject.

Spinal adjustments from an experienced practitioner are safe, comfortable and effective. The underlying principle of chiropractic treatment is to restore normal function to the affected joints. With this in mind, highly effective treatment can be almost effortless. Most people experience no discomfort whatsoever and should be able to feel a difference almost immediately.

It is usual to review your progress several days after your first visit. This allows your chiropractor to assess your progress, confirm or modify your diagnosis and treatment to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.
